Equestrian Treatises

In this section of the website, you can access new English translations of early Italian equestrian treatises. I am currently working on two texts; the first is the third book from Claudio Corte’s Il Cavallarizzo (1562), which is written in the form of three dialogues, and explores the foundational philosophy of the art of riding. The second work is Pasquale Caracciolo’s Discorso de freni et de maneggi (1568), a beautifully written manuscript with hand-drawn diagrams of manege patterns. These and others will be made available as they are completed.
